01 Jun The Founding of Leo and Oginni Trial Lawyers
The Lambda Phi Epsilon alumni network has such a diverse background with brothers internationally. Every month the LFE International Board will sit down with alumni to learn more about their backgrounds and what they are currently doing. For our second interview, Director of Communications Jimmy Tran spoke with George Oginni an alumni from The University of Texas at Dallas who co-founded his own law practice Leo and Oginni Trial Lawyers, a firm focused on helping individuals injured by a car accident, truck crash, animal bite, or other personal injury accidents.
Why did you decide to open your law firm instead of joining an already established firm post-grad? How did you get the ball rolling?
- George Oginni’s parents always worked from themselves so it was always an idea for him to have his own business. Initially it was the lack of experience that held him back but during law school he did multiple internships at a personal injury law firm that helped him build the confidence to start his own practice. By the time George finished law school he already had three years of experience working at a Personal Injury focused firm. George’s first client was actually someone from aKDPHI (Alpha Kappa Delta Phi) who was involved in a personal injury case.
What has been the biggest hurdle (still facing now)?
- For George, his biggest hurdle is how to take the business to the next level. He quotes J. Cole, “I put a lot of pressure on myself. I think something’s not good enough, and I won’t stop until I feel like I’ve made it.” There is a lot of pressure to take it to the next level and break through uncharted territory. How George is overcoming these hurdles is observing other lawyers and big time firms that are dominating the game. He uses this knowledge on a micro level to apply it to his firm’s situation to help them grow.
What is your personal goal and professional goal this year?
- George’s personal goal for this year is to be a great husband to his wife whom he recently got married too. With his new partner he is excited to start this new chapter with her and live as much life as possible. A business goal that George has is creating a formula to hit 200 cases a month at Leo and Oginni Trial Lawyers.
Who and what is your dream client?
- George’s dream client is always to help a family that has been truly impacted by an unfortunate accident. These cases allow George and his team to help a family in need which could mean awarding the family with a settlement to help them recover financially and stay afloat.
What piece of advice would you give to anyone that wants to start their own law firm?
- George’s main piece of advice is to make sure you network so that you are able to meet as many people as possible. A lot of the people that you meet at a networking event could become one of your future clients and refer you to another client.
