Las Vegas, Nevada — Lambda Phi Epsilon Chapter Presidents and New Member Educators convened over Martin Luther King weekend to enjoy fellowship and learn the skills necessary to lead their undergraduate chapters at Orientation 2019.
International President William Tan kicked off the two-day training with a State of the Fraternity address, sharing highlights from the past year and setting goals for the next decade. The hiring of the Fraternity’s second paid staff member, one of the major accomplishments of 2018, has resulted in an increased capacity for membership reporting, dues collection, and expansion to new campuses.
“It was an amazing experience to be able to see all of the brothers from each chapter come together in one place,” said Assistant Executive Director Zac Antonius. “I loved being able to put faces to the names that I have been working with since I started.”
Throughout the weekend, the Chapter Presidents and New Member Educators split up into different breakout sessions to facilitate critical discussion on the future of the Fraternity and build the foundational knowledge to be effective leaders in their respective roles.
Chapter Presidents built stronger relationships among peer leaders through region-specific gatherings and one-on-one sessions with officers of the International Board. In addition to engaging in workshops within chapter operations, they also provided input on shaping fraternal bylaws in the House of Delegates meeting.
“Orientation has equipped me with better knowledge on how to lead our chapter successfully and progress in terms of recruiting, budgeting, and how to work collaboratively with other organizations on campus,” said University of Nebraska–Lincoln Chapter President Paul Tran. “It also has instilled me with confidence on how to be a better leader for my chapter. I came home feeling satisfied, knowing I have the skills to continue growing my chapter with what I’ve learned at Orientation.”
New Member Educators received their own specialized training, as the Fraternity continues its implementation of the Noble Brother Program. “Our team has been working really hard to ensure we are teaching our young men to be leaders,” said Education Administrator Johnny Vo. “After investing significant resources on curriculum development and training, we’re excited to expand a greater vision for integrating new members into the brotherhood.”
“I was honored to be a part of the group of New Member Educators who had the chance to convene and learn alongside our presidents,” said Washington State University New Member Educator Makani Pau. “It was an opportunity to learn and share knowledge on building authentic brotherhood. We definitely took advantage of the occasion.”
With 96% of chapters (46 out of 48) in good standing present or excused for the weekend, the organization witnessed the highest levels of attendance among registered delegates in the history of Orientation weekend.“Having the ability to connect with chapter leaders from all across the country on the critical issues facing our organization is both exhilarating and inspiring,” said Programming Coordinator Ian Galope. “Seeing people who are motivated to make a change in their communities is what makes being on the International Board even more rewarding.”
