Be The Match with Lambda Phi Epsilon

Lambda Phi Epsilon annually partners with the Be The Match Foundation to register new donors committed to saving the lives of patients diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancer. Each chapter of Lambda Phi Epsilon coordinates a bone marrow registration drive on their local campus to diversify the pool of committed donors and raise funds to support the mission of Be The Match.

Twitch Plays Lambdas

The Alpha Tau Chapter at the University of Virginia hosted “Twitch Plays Lambdas” this past November. The chapter live-streamed a series of events the brothers participated in for spectators to tune into and donate virtually. Some of these events included a spicy ramen challenge, a dance competition, a chef cook-off, and a number of entertaining activities. As an added incentive, they also celebrated special milestone activities they would perform at the end of the show if they hit their fundraising goals. Through innovative means, the chapter raised over $1,700 during their 2.5-hour livestream event!

Pi Chapter Match

Meanwhile, in Texas, the Pi Chapter at the University of Houston took a different approach in organizing their philanthropic event. Spanning a period of four days, the brothers registered over 90 people during their campus registry with the new digital registration process. When asked about his experience with the service event, Vice President of Service Bryan Dang recalled, “my favorite moment from our chapter’s recent philanthropy event would be encouraging the campus community to sign up for the registry.”

UMass Be the Match

The Alpha Upsilon Chapter at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst also held their service event with Be The Match this past November. The chapter enlisted over 80 new individuals during their campus registry event. To encourage folks to sign up for the registry, the chapter handed out virtual reality headsets upon completion of the form. In the words of Brother Dominic Tran, “what better way to bring widespread awareness of blood cancer to the public than to hold annual registry events on our campuses?”

Answering a Call to Action
In honor of fallen brother Evan Chen, each chapter works tirelessly to hold marrow typing drives on their campuses and encourages Asians and other racial minorities to register as committed transplant donors. Since the fraternity’s inception, Lambda Phi Epsilon has educated thousands of donors to commit to saving the life of a patient in need. Be the Match are continuously encouraging individuals to sign up online in order to save more lives.
